foster grandparent program

‚ÄčAs school based mentors, friend and role models, Foster Grandparents work one-on-one with children or in small groups in classroom settings assisting with academics, social skills or other special needs. They display an abundance of personal warmth, emotional maturity and social responsiveness. Foster Grandparents help children learn to succeed and be happy. They enhance a child's life.

Foster Grandparents work 15 to 40 hours a week in day care centers, preschools, Head Start programs and public or private schools. They also help young people living in exceptional care facilities with developmental needs. Participants receive a tax-free stipend of approximately $225 to about $450 monthly.

In 2012, Foster Grandparents devoted 75,983 hours to the program in Bureau, Carroll, LaSalle, Lee, Marshall, Ogle, Putnam, Stark and Whiteside counties.
